2004 Scion
Life Toy Drive
written by Darren Seeman for scionlife.com
For the second year in a row automotive enthusiast websites
banded together to provide charities across the nation with a steady
supply of toy cars for children. Many of the members of these sites
remember playing for hours on end with these diecast vehicles as small
children. The experiences helped form the motorhead that they have
grown into, and they want to provide those experiences for the next
generation. This year over $10,000 in donations were collected by
eleven websites and nearly 160,000 members that were in heated competition.
Each site operated a toy drive and compared results on a daily basis.
At the end of the contest the site with the most points won. The average
donation pace this year was over thirteen toys per minute for the
30-day contest!

Adam Michela astounded us with his site's early lead and easy
victory. He could have ended his toy drive on the third day
of the contest and STILL taken the trophy. By the end of the
contest they had collected over 40 cases of Hotwheels cars and
plenty of loose ones. Ironically, with 400-lbs of donations
he couldn't fit them all into his Acura!

Darren Seeman's Scion site almost doubled its total donations
this year, from 966 to 1733. Scion owners on the east coast
shipped many cases to Portland just before the last day of the
contest to seal their second place spot. Is doubling their points
repeatable? I guess we will find out next Christmas! |

Tom grabbed the reigns of the Element sleigh this year and delivered
a solid truckload of toys. They local newscrew was onhand during
their delivery so they even had the honor of having the site's
name flubbed on the local news!

You've got to hand it to the Focal Jet guys and Ron Myers, site
owner. They were down about 2000 members from last year but
they still delivered more toys. They barely fit everything into
the Focus for delivery this year, and next year they will probably
need a pair!

Kevin Riley and Lisa Bianco organized the Toyota Echo owners
to a successful finale. The Echo Drivers site is the smallest
site in the contest, as fas as membership goes. They had the
highest ranking per-member average! Their donations were made
to the Providence Ronald McDonald House.

It's easy to get overshadowed by some of the larger donations,
but if you stop and consider how many children 200 toys can
help it puts a different perspective on our contest. That means
that a couple hundred parents got to watch the faces of a couple
hundred kids as a couple hundred Christmases were a better place! |

The photo is great, but I think that maybe our next contest
should be to help Larry clean his garage! Just kidding, good
job guys.

These guys don't play fair! How can put them this low on the
list when they easily have the cutest photo!

The Import Mix site got a little bit of a late start but they
still came through in the end with more than just a few toys. |

Holiday chores overwhelmed the SELOC guys and their photographer
didn't have a chance to send it their official photos for the
contest. This dropped them out of the contest, but I think that
Santa is still going to notice the generous pile of toys they
delivered! |

Another site that didn't get their photo to us in time, the
Nissan 350Z guys put 176 little smiles on 176 little faces this
holiday season. |
