ScionLife started out steady with a little over a grand by the end of week two. The middle of week three saw a $2000 donation, and our final day saw another $1000. We reached our goal of $5000 just in time, with only a few hours to spare.

The toy drive ended Monday night and we were ready for it. Tuesday night was our big event. A dozen Scion owners met at a Portland-local department store after work. The store manager had agreed to give us a 10% discount for our event, and dedicate two cash registers. With the 10% discount we could purchase $6000 in toys from the packed shelves! We filled about 25 shopping carts and then nine Scions.

From the store we drove everything down to the local Toys for Tots office. They run a very small operatation from a single-wide trailer on some empty space on the Coast Guard base. Their two staff members couldn't keep up with the steady flow of bags, so their office was quickly overwhelmed. The rain was pouring down, so we had to get the toys in as fast as we could, and organizing them was impossible at that rate. About a hundred bags of toys soon rendered their workspace useless.

A special thanks to everyone that donated to our event this year, Mike Lee at Fred Meyers for suffering the destruction of his toy department and giving us a discount on the merchandise and the ScionLife members that helped at the very end!     --Darren Seeman, ScionLife

Acurazine got a late start, but they continued their charity drive an additional nine days to make up for it. The amazing thing is that they finished third place in our event although our deadline cut them off after only five days. That means they raised over $600 per day of the event! It was an absolutely incredible display of giving, but they didn't stop there.

They finished up on December 20th with a cash donation of $5000 to Child's Play, a charity that gives through partner hospitals to benefit sick children. This qualified Acurazine to be a Platinum Sponsor, listing them on the CP website beside other heavy hitters such as Dell, Sony and Bungie.

RAV4World ended up with $2555.00! They took 100% of their contributions to the Bi-Mart in McMinnville, Oregon for their shopping spree. Bi-Mart stores have a drop box in their front lobby for the 'Marines Toys-for-Tots' charity. The McMinnville store was a GREAT help, as they gave an additional 15% discount on all toys purchased, bringing the buying power to nearly $3000.00!

Kelly says - 'We started out with 6 shopping carts and LOADED them up. Took them to the front register and it came to $633.18. Only $1921.82 to go! For the final count we used a total of 19 shopping carts. We were able to take advantage of some EXCELLENT sale prices and came away with quite a few VERY NICE toys.'

We did our shopping spree on Saturday, December 11th. CT members showed up at Toys 'R Us around 10am to begin buying the toys. A photographer from the Richmond Times-Dispatch was also on hand taking photos for the newspaper. Our members shopped conscientiously, looking for sale items, buy-one-get-one items, and overall picked up a wide range of toys for children of all ages and interests. We ended up with lots of 'learning' toys as well as Matchbox cars, stuffed animals, and baby and toddler toys.

The store manager was kind enough to give us our own register and also gave us a gift card worth 3% (about another $70) of our total purchase once the transaction was complete. We spent that gift card on more toys for the kids. Then, we drove to the drop-off location, our local Toys for Tots headquarters. We took some photos of the toys and then dropped off the loot with the Marines.

My wife and I went to a local Toys 'R Us for our spree, she would buy the 'girl' toys and I would buy the 'boy' toys. We each grabbed a cart and headed in separate directions. Four carts later we had completed our task. It was very amusing watching the reactions of fellow shoppers as I would find a good buy and all but clear the shelf/peg of the item. The Wichita Kansas Toys 'R Us staff was very helpful, as was the manager, Richard, who provided us with a cashier so that we could bring our carts up at our leisure. When we had finished the purchase we drove to the local Toys for Tots distribution center. It was there I met with GySgt. Epps and his Marines. We got them together for the picture and they quickly, and with military precision, unloaded the Element. It was a wonderful day and it felt good knowing that needy kids will have a little bit of light in their lives this Christmas thanks to the generousity of the people who love this wierd box called the Element. I would like to publicly thank everyone at Elementownersclub.com who made this possible.

SELOC went to Publix grocery store (they take care of the Toys For Tots pick ups and are a drop point) since they had Hotwheels on sale for $0.79 each. While talking to the manager about purchasing the cars and donating them at the store the same day, he offered an additional $100 donation! So all in all with our total dollar amount it came out to be around 750 toys donated.

First I'd like to say thank you to everyone who donated. Without you guys/girls this would not be possible.

I'd also like to thank Liz (schlegelbagel), Carmen (nemrac), and Roger (Beast) for their help setting everything up and being good sports in the pictures

This year we took in $420.00 in donations via paypal and with that I managed to purchase 555 Hotwheels and Matchbox cars from two seperate KB Toy Store locations. Toys were deposited at a Toys for Tots drop box at KB Toys. So thanks again to everyone for a successful toy drive.
